Job Description

Ecolab is seeking an Audit Manager I / II - SOx PMO to manage Ecolab's Sarbanes Oxley Section 404 program, enabling Management to assess the effectiveness of internal controls for financial reporting. The Audit Manager reports to the VP of Audit Services and has two experienced direct reports. This position provides broad, rapid, and high-level exposure to Ecolab operations and senior management, with advancement opportunities into other areas of the organization.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform risk assessment and provide scoping recommendations for SOx 404 testing. Lead SOx PMO in continuous refinement of controls documentation and testing, including

    • Review process and control documentation periodically to ensure it is up to date, and to identify opportunities to rationalize processes, controls, and testing

    • Design testing to appropriately evaluate the effectiveness of key internal controls

  • Lead SOx 404 testing, the majority of which is performed by Management testers and reviewers within the various functions and business units. The SOx PMO enables this process by doing the following:

    • Prepare and deliver training on SOx 404 testing

    • Customize / maintain systems that store control and testing documentation (state-of-the-art AuditBoard software recently implemented, to be launched FY24)

  • Serve as a key point of contact with external auditor regarding internal controls

    • Discuss upcoming changes within business and regulatory environment and proactively align on internal control considerations

    • Lead SOx PMO staff in planning and performing certain control testing on behalf of external auditor in key shared service sites annually

  • Advise process owners in evaluating and remediating control gaps identified during Management testing and external auditor testing

  • Advise process owners on process and control improvements, especially related to new capabilities and technologies, and to comply with evolving regulations. Provide leadership in managing projects, connecting cross functional groups to collaborate and deliver on solutions

  • Prepare communications for executive management and the audit committee of the board of directors

  • Stay informed of changes in regulations and audit techniques (e.g. PCAOB, AICPA, Big 4 best practice sharing). Apply learnings to identify, plan, and execute continuous improvement of SOx 404 program and Ecolab control environment

  • Supervise, coach and mentor two experienced direct reports within SOx PMO. Contract and manage outside expertise as needed

  • Create and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders throughout the organization

  • Collaborate with peers from other Audit Services functions on assurance work and the overall management and progression of the department

  • Participate in IIA and / or other professional business networking opportunities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business and/or related area

  • 5+ years of experience in related areas, such as public accounting, internal audit, internal controls, including 3+ years in either public accounting and/or internal audit / internal controls

  • Experience with project management and cross-functional collaboration

  • Experience and familiarity with COSO-based framework and SOx 404 regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA, CIA, CRMA, or MBA certifications

  • Highly motivated individual who thinks strategically and strives for developing sound business solutions that will have a positive impact on Ecolab

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, analytical, communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to work autonomously, manage ambiguity, detect nuance

  • Experience working internationally (remote or travel)

Position Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 15%, including international

  • Prefer employee to be St Paul based
